Who are you?

My name is Ashley Jones. I opened up a ciminal defense law firm right out of law school and have never looked back. I was raised in a small town in Ohio, and after law school, I decided to make Cleveland my home.

Why did you become a lawyer?

I cannot stand bullies. So much of the criminal justice system is bullying and individuals who find themselves accused of a crime need an advocate to fight for them against the governent.

Where did you go to school?

I graduated from Ohio University and Cleveland State University College of Law.

Why did you start Ashley Jones Law?

I opened a criminal defense law firm right out of law school in 2011. I wanted to get into a court room as fast as possible and I was drawn to criminal defense and the impact I could make on the justice system.  I am blessed at its growth and our wins for our clients, and when the opportunity arose in 2023 to work with Leslie, it was a no brainer. We hold the same ideals personally and professionally and everday we are ready to provide relentless represenation to our clients, together.

What do you like to do when you are not being a lawyer?

I am a big reader, so I am often curled up with a book at home. My husband and I have a 4 year old daughter and try to find fun trips and activities to do as a family. We love exploring the Cleveland Metroparks. I am also usually training for some sort of race and have completed two half marathons.

What sets you apart from other lawyers?

Persistence and compassion.  I am like a dog with a bone if there is something I want, or an unfairness or injustice that I see.  I try to couple that with compassion for my clients.

Who are you?

My name is Leslie Johns and I am a Partner at AJLJ Law. I was born and raised in Shaker Heights, Ohio and currently reside in Cleveland Heights. I currently serve as a part-time Magistrate at the Shaker Heights Municipal Court and Intake Specialist at Equality Ohio.

Why did you become a lawyer?

I’ve had a fascination with the criminal justice system since high school. I thought I wanted to be a Veterinarian until taking a criminal justice course in college. It wasn’t until junior year of college that I considered being a lawyer. However, with my passion for justice and general love for helping others, the path to becoming a lawyer was one that I was determined to navigate.

Where did you go to school?

I graduated from Bowling Green State University and Cleveland State University College of Law.

Why did you join Ashley Jones Law?

I met Ashley through our work as criminal defense attorneys. We quickly became friends and bonded over fitness and the pursuit of justice. We wanted to see what building a criminal defense team would look like. I took the leap of faith in 2022 and have not looked back.

What do you like to do when you are not being a lawyer?

I’m big on family so most weekends my wife and I are either spending time with our daughter,  my family or hers. We enjoy trying new restaurants and traveling as much as we can.

What sets you apart from other lawyers?

Black attorneys make up about 4.7% of all lawyers in the country. Unfortunately, 40% of people in jail or prison are black. Being able to share common experiences and challenges through my representation of individuals not only provides a level of comfort but insight that some attorneys, by no fault of their own, simply do not have. I’m also often told that I have a remarkable level of patience. In handling sensitive matters such as criminal defense and protection order cases, having patience with individuals is an invaluable asset.

Attorney Jones was very helpful with my speeding ticket along with the reckless operation. She was able to get a dismissal on Reckless Operation and the speeding reduced! I walked away paying only court cost. Her rates were very reasonable and she was understanding with the payment.

Ashley is a great attorney that devotes a lot of time for her clients. She helped me with two separate cases that went on for several months. Always on time and well prepared. I definitely recommend her services if you are in need of an attorney.
